The Pryor Mountains are located on the border of Montana and Wyoming. The land is extremely rugged with elevations from 3,900 feet to 8,000 feet. The landscape of the Pryor Mountains is high grass meadows, timber, and arid desert. The climate is very cold in the winter and hot in the summer. On this contrasting wilderness there is a small herd of wild horses, known as the Pryor Mountain Mustangs. |

People from all over the world have come to study, photograph, and write about these horses.
The Pryor horses are presumed to be of a Spanish ancestry, as evidenced by genetic studies and blood typing that has been done over the past several years.
